Studio visits to artisans in other countries are always exciting!
I had seen Massimo's playful and beautiful lighting made from
slumped glass, often recycled, in Lecce at DoppioZero restaurant.
It was easy to contact him and he obliged me with a studio visit.
His simple studio is in the modest town of Campi Salentina
outside Lecce. He shares his space with 2 cute cats. Massimo
sat me down a gave me a wonderful overview of his work: now
the hard part: choosing something for my house in Nardo!

Woodesign di Roberto Primiceri

Doing research to find alternatives to a standard cookie-cutter
armadio closet, I came across Woodesign in an internet research.
My project manager was happy to accompany me to visit Roberto Primiceri's workshop. Here we  found a well ordered shop, open and humming, with several work coat dressed carpenters and some really wonderful cabinet work. The first thing we ordered from Woodesign was a tabletop for a unique designer base in corten steel that I purchased from an Italian designer years ago. It had some unique aspects that Roberto managed to integrate into the terrific top he made for me. They created custom metal work in an "x" pattern that repeated the "x" of the legs underneath and for the top they created a metal tool for the large mounting "screws" that were part of the design. I choose Iroko a kind of African Teak in a natural finish. O and ps! the job was done in 4 days! Here are photos of his workspace with samples of his work.

You may have seen these exotic over the top light displays in your local "Little Italy" in the USA, but here in the Salento in particular they are a standard feature of the holiday seasons. Cities create great avenues of this gated lights and compete please the crowds. De Cagna has a sales place in their factory in Maglie. My friend Laura Brogi Riggetti who runs the B&B Tana del Riccio, showed me little small ones that are designed for interior spaces: we both flipped over them; they just make you smile big! This visit purchased a small one, that will go on my upper floor at the entrance to the terrace....more to come as my terrace is ramped up!
